North Denver Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe, natural and effective way to feel well and stay healthy. It involves inserting sterilized, hair-thin, stainless steel needles into the skin at specific acupuncture points on the body to activate the body’s natural healing abilities. Acupuncture goes back at least 2500 years, it is endorsed by the World Health Organization and has been validated in research studies for the treatment of a variety of different health conditions. The goal of acupuncture is to restore the harmony and balance of Yin Yang energies within the body.

How do I Prepare For My Treatment?

Eat something within 3 hours of your appointment to make sure that your blood sugar levels remain steady. Wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing, ideally that can be pulled up above knees and elbows without constricting.

What Should I expect After the Treatment?

After acupuncture treatment, most patients feel pleasantly relaxed and their symptoms lessened. Pain can be greatly reduced from acupuncture and a sense of well-being is often fostered.

  • In a perfect world you would rest for the day, but this isn’t reasonable for everyone. Definitely avoid strenuous exercise, limit caffeine and alcohol. Eat healthy, and nourishing foods. Avoid starchy, heavy and greasy or processed foods.

There is a chance that you might notice some bruising, itchiness or soreness at the site of some of the needles and that is totally normal.

  • Sometimes we have something that is acute and needs to be treated immediately, it can be used in this way, kind of like a band aid. But where Chinese Medicine really shines is on finding the root of issues, which takes more time. It is like layers of an onion, as we peel off the first layer, what is underneath begins to show through. This takes time and consistency, it is important to follow the treatment plan to enjoy the results.

  • Each patient is different. Acupuncture is a process and works best with frequent treatments, each one building on the one before. Generally the more acute the condition, the faster it can respond to treatment. Sometimes 1 to 3 treatments is all that is needed. The more chronic the condition, the more treatments it will take to get the desired results. As your practitioner, I will work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your specific health goals.

  • It depends on if we’re doing a band-aid, or really fixing the problem, but generally we start acupuncture patients out at a 1-2 times per week, and then start weaning you off of that schedule as soon as we are seeing some real changes.
