Reconnecting with the Body: Embrace Its Wisdom and Rediscover Healing Through Simple Practices
I am absolutely convinced that our world is not only filled with chronic disease but overwhelmed by chronic disbelief—disbelief in the incredible ways our bodies communicate with us and in nature’s powerful ability to heal. We have mistaken the body's signals for something wrong. It’s time to open our eyes to what’s right in front of us: how our bodies are constantly protecting us. The body doesn’t make mistakes; it knows exactly what it’s doing. It’s time we start trusting that wisdom!
Here are ways to reconnect and believe. Try these practices without assigning any meaning—simply become a witness, as if you have no expectations about how things should be:
Slow down while eating. For the next few weeks, choose one meal each day to eat slowly. Notice the smell of the food, the flavor of each bite, and chew slowly. When you start to feel full, stop eating. Afterward, observe how your digestion feels. Are you experiencing bloating or gas? Do you feel fatigued after eating?
Stay in bed a while. Every morning for a week, allow yourself 5-10 minutes upon waking to check in with your body. How do you feel? Are you rested, do you have energy to get up? Is your breath fluid? Can you move your neck comfortably? Are you feeling hungry? Is your mind racing to the next task?
Take a stroll. Go outside, get some fresh air and sunlight on your skin. Walk slowly enough to notice how your feet land. Do your toes touch first, with your heels staying light? Do you land heavily on your heels? Does your weight fall toward the outside or inside of your foot?
For now, just listen. Practice listening so you can begin to understand the language of your body. Don’t rush to assign meaning. Remember when you first learned to read—you had to start with the basics. Once those become second nature, the next steps come smoothly. Be gentle with yourself. You are worth the time.
